When birth doesn’t go as planned
A gentle and calm labour, new mum serenely swaying.
But then the pushing, and now each time baby’s … heart … rate … slows.
Suction cap, pulling on baby’s head – still no progress, still heart faltering.
Doctor looking grim, calls for emergency Caesarean section.
Unexpected rush.
Busy operating room.
Anxiety.
Shattered dream
But then the baby safely out, and with kangaroula’s help is placed on mother’s chest, right there on the operating table.
The baby’s eyes open almost immediately, and with encouragement from the kangaroula, baby is soon suckling strongly on the breast.
Calm restored
Peace returns.
The dream restored.
Mum and Dad share a smile.
