Kangaroula!
We provide introductory courses covering the essentials of nurturescience in practice. These are open to anybody with an interest and or experience in mother and newborn care, including parents as recipients of such care. The course does assume some prior knowledge and experience.
The kangaroula is the “embodiment of the nurturescience” . The first key aspect is to be an advocate for the best interests of the child. The second is to provide the practical skills for health enhancement inherent in nurture. Current heath and hospital care is primarily focused on risk reduction, and this must continue, but now seamlessly while also supporting nurturescience.
To become a certified kangaroula therefore involves being present at births and implementing and/or supporting immediate and continuous skin-to-skin contact, early colostrum and support for breastfeeding, and supporting optimal emotional connection, which is the platform for resilience. Practically this involves report forms and different kinds of observations, with ongoing mentoring.
